Lo Stagno offers its guests an immense countryside where to walk, run or ride freely, among farmhouses and wheat fields, eventually reaching the enchanting city of Cremona, known worldwide as the city of Stradivari (1644-1737) , world-renowned luthier, creator of the best violins in the world.
The farmhouse offers its guests bicycles to set off and discover the Po river, where time slows down, amidst expanses of crops and sunsets of rare beauty. The river paths to choose from are many and Paola, the owner, will be able to advise the most suitable for your needs. VENTO is the project of a bicycle touring network that runs for over 700 km along the banks of the Po river. From Venice to Turin, passing through the countryside of Stagno Lombardo a stone’s throw from the farm, this project is unique in Italy and promises a real immersion in the history, nature and culture of the area.
The historic center of Cremona is dominated by Torrazzo, the decorated medieval bell tower, 112 meters high, the undisputed symbol of the city. A breathtaking view from its top is reserved for those who are willing to climb 502 steps! On the fourth floor there is an 8.5 meter astronomical clock, while in the bell tower there are 7 bells from 1744 dedicated to the saints, including Sant Omobono and Iberio, patrons of Cremona. In the golden sphere on the top of the Torrazzo there is a fragment of the Cross of Jesus. Next to the Torrazzo there is the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Town Hall and the Loggia del Militi, all unmissable destinations before a visit to the historic violin makers, which for over 500 years have been making the best violins in the world. A stop at the violin museum is essential, to savor the elegance of an instrument of romantic emotions.
This aristocratic land, steeped in music and culture, is also a favorite destination for gourmets who love ‘torrone’, whose origins are disputed by various legends, ‘marubini’ with three broths, ‘bollito misto’ with ‘salsa verde and mostarda, grana, or culatello’, a ham for connoisseurs only, in the company of a refreshing Lambrusco, typical of the neighboring territories.
